Robert Kane - University of Texas at Austin
Robert Kane is University Distinguished Teaching Professor of Philosophy Emeritus and Professor of Law at the University of Texas at Austin, where he has been teaching since 1970. His published works include
The Significance of Free Will (Oxford, 1996) and
Through the Moral Maze (Paragon, 1994). He is the editor of
The Oxford Handbook of Free Will (Oxford, 2002), a collection of essays on recent work on free will by leading figures in the field;
Free Will (Blackwell, 2002) and author of
A Contemporary Introduction to Free Will (Oxford, 2005). His latest work,
Ethics and the Quest for Wisdom (Cambridge, 2010) offers a new approach to finding common ethical ground in a pluralistic world based on the ancient philosophical conception of wisdom. His lecture series,
The Quest for Meaning: Values, Ethics and the Modern Experience, appears in the Great Courses on Tape Series, which can be purchased for download from the Teaching Company.
Professor Kane received his Ph.D in Philosophy from Yale University.
