Allison Pugh - University of Virginia


Allison Pugh is Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Virginia, and received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.  Her book Longing and Belonging:  Parents, Children, and Consumer Culture (University of California Press, 2009) has won a number of awards, among them the 2010 William J. Goode award for the best book in the sociology of the family and the Distinguished Contribution in the sociology of children and youth, both from sections of the American Sociological Association.  Currently on sabbatical at the University of Sydney, Australia, Pugh is writing a book with the working title The End of Commitment?: Producing the Flexible Self, on her current research into postindustrial meanings of commitment among parents whose experiences of trust and loyalty at the workplace and at home vary widely.
