Joshua Yates - University of Virginia

Joshua J. Yates is Research Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Virginia and Director of the Program on Culture, Capitalism, and Global Change at the Institute of Advanced Studies in Culture. Professor Yates is a cultural sociologist whose research focuses on three overlapping themes: the changing moral foundations of economic life, the development and institutionalization of a rudimentary global culture, and the conflicts and dilemmas such processes are generating across the world.

He is the lead editor of the forthcoming collection: Thrift and Thriving in America: Capitalism and Moral Order from the Puritans to the Present (Oxford University Press, 2011) and is currently working on a book encapsulating the three principal themes of his research entitled: The Problem of the Good World: Reflections on Globalization and Ethical Life.
