Erdmute Alber is professor of social anthropology at the University of Bayreuth, Germany.

Her research has taken her to Latin America and Africa. Although previously specialized in political anthropology, Professor Alber has dedicated her career to childhood and child fosterage in northern Benin since 1998. Editor of the journal Sociologus, Professor Alber is currently working on family, childhood and generational relations.
