This book is the Spanish translation of Why Marriage Matters: Twenty Six Conclusions from the Social Sciences (second edition), originally published by the Institute for American Values. The conclusions are drawn from 150 scientific studies that examine the impact of diverse social trends on the institution of marriage. Sixteen family scholars affiliated with the Institute for American Values support this statement of findings. The statement divides the conclusions into the following chapters:

-Factores económicos (Economics)
-Salud y longevidad (Physical Health and Longevity)
-Salud mental y bienestar emocional (Mental Health and Emotional Well-Being)
-Delito y violencia doméstica (Crime and Domestic Violence)

Additionally, the new Spanish edition includes a prologue by University of Virginia sociology professor W. Bradford Wilcox that discusses how these trends are specifically affecting marriage in Europe.
