Julia Tinland is a postdoctoral researcher in Philosophy at Sorbonne Université (UMR Sciences, Normes, Démocratie), working within the Integrated Research Site on Cancer (SiRIC) CURAMUS, based at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital.

Her research focuses on ethical and epistemological issues in contemporary medicine, and more particularly on conceptualizations of vulnerability in preventive medicine and diagnostic categories (oncology, psychiatry). She defended her PhD thesis on the Ethics of Pre-Onset Early Detection and Interventions in Psychiatry, written under the supervision of Geoffrey Scarre and Holger Maehle, at Durham University (UK), in 2018. Her current projects and collaborations relate to participatory medicine and patient expertise, Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) nosology, and rare cancers.
